Paul Rockwood      Player/Ambassador - Graduating Class of 1968

Introduction:

 

Paul Rockwood played a large role on the first soccer teams in Cuyahoga Falls history. He was a strong defender for the Black Tigers and would go on to play at the University of Akron and professionally. He has involved himself in soccer throughout the state of Ohio at various levels and was inducted into the OHIO SOCCER HALL OF FAME in 2013 for his efforts and accomplishments.

 

CFHS Awards/Accomplishments:

 

As mentioned, Paul was a solid defender for the Black Tigers from 1965-1967 graduating in 1968. His 1965 team still holds the school record for least goals given up in a season at five for a 0.6 Goals Against Avg.

 

He served as captain his senior year along with Don Scott.      

 

Post CFHS:

 

Paul played for the University of Akron from 1969-72. In 1969 he was named Akron’s Team Most Valuable Player and in 1970 Best Defensive Player.

 

Paul played professionally in the American Soccer League with the Cincinnati Comets for two years in 1974 and 1975.

 

He began coaching in 1973. He was the original Head Coach of Oak Hills High School, started the Northern Kentucky University program, where he earned the NSCAA Mid-west Coach of the year award and later coached at Southern Ohio’s powerhouse, St. Xavier High School.  He currently serves as a Director of Coaching with Cincinnati United Premier and Cincinnati United Soccer Club. In July, a team that he worked with, finished fifth in the country at the USYSA National Championships in Tulsa, OK. Paul was also the first Head State Youth Coach for the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association as well as serving as the Head Midwest ODP Regional Coach where he was fortunate to travel extensively throughout Europe and Mexico. Through it all he has earned the prestigious USSF “A” Coaching license, the top coaching license in the United States.

 

Finally, Paul is also affiliated with the Columbus Crew serving as the team videographer.

 

With all of his accomplishments it is quite obvious why the State of Ohio inducted him into the Ohio Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013.

 

Conclusion:

 

Paul currently lives in Cincinnati with his wife Jeanne, sons Kevin and Luke.  His daughter Bethany lives in Nashville, TN

with son-in-law Josh and grandson Leland.
